There’s an old man in a rocking chair sitting all alone
Once upon a time it seemed that old house was a home
No laughing children down the hall, he chased them all away
And mothers cooking nothing now, the kitchens’ cold and gray

There was a time, he can recall, when relatives dropped by
But he would leave and just look in standing there outside
The old clock in the living room has just run out of time
He doesn’t wind it anymore, it’s ticking in his mind

He had it all but couldn’t see, he was rich with family
Now all he really wants to be … is living in the past

The old man’s in the garden, he’s cutting down the grass
He never smells the flowers, for him they never last
And when the children came around he just forgot to play
He never saw the beauty but he saw it fade away

The old man’s turning out the lights and turning in alone
He grabs an extra blanket now he’s feeling cold as stone
Tomorrow is another day but like today he’ll find
It’s sunny on the outside but it’s raining in his mind

He had it all but couldn’t see, he was rich with family
Now all he really wants to be … is living in the past.

The past is just a mirror
That reflects all we’ve become
The love that we let just slip away
Can never be undone,
